BASKETBALL GAMES: For tonight at Central Lyon will be the 9th girls in the Activity Center (by the football field) and the 9th boys in the high school gym.  Both games will begin at 4:45. There will be no JV games. Varsity girls will begin at 6:15 and Varsity boys at 7:45.

LARGE GROUP SPEECH:
     One Act practice immediately after school today (Early Out Day).

LARGE GROUP SPEECH STUDENTS:  Will be loading the van and trailer after school today.  ALL Students must be present. The bus will leave tomorrow, Jan. 21 from George at 7:15 AM. 

ATTENTION:  The Clothes Drive will end today.  

TACO FEED: Will be today from 5:00-7:00 will be a Taco Feed at the GLR vs. CL basketball games at Central Lyon.  The Taco Feed will consist of soft/hard shells, nachos, cookie and a drink.  Cost will be $6 for 8 year old thru adults and $3 for under 8 years old.

HOMECOMING: Will be Jan. 23-Jan. 28.  Coronation will be Monday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 in the high school auditorium. The overall theme this year is Tropical Paradise.  The day themes are:
   Monday, Jan. 23 Formal Day – Dress your Best
   Tuesday, Jan. 24 – Class Color Day – 9th-Brown; 10th-Blue; 11th-White; 12th-Black;
                                                                     Staff-Gray
   Wednesday, Jan. 25 – Character Day – Dress up as your favorite Character
   Thursday, Jan. 26 – Spirit Day – Dress in Red/Black
   Friday, Jan. 27 – Tropical Day – Dress in tropical wear -(This is also the Theme for game)

ALL SOPHOMORES: The Juniors will be voting for Prom waiters and waitresses soon.  If you know you will not be able to fulfill your duties as a waiter or waitress, please stop in the high school office to take you name off the list.  You will need to do this by Friday, Jan. 27. After that you will not be able to remove you name from the list.

ALL JUNIORS: You will be voting for Prom Waiters and Waitresses on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at the beginning of your history class.

FRESHMAN: Jostens will be here Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 2:30 in the old commons to give you information on class rings. 
He will be back to take your order on Friday, Feb. 3 at 8:00 AM in the Media Center (Library).

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY APPLICATIONS: For the 2017 school year is open to all seniors, juniors, and sophomores that meet the requirements.  The application was emailed to you and must be returned to Mrs. Negus by 4:00 Friday, Feb. 3.  NO LATE applications will be accepted.  If you have any questions about the application or any of its requirements, ask Mrs. Negus.

SENIORS & SENIOR PARENTS: Northwest Iowa Community College, in collaboration with FAFSA Ready Iowa (formerly Iowa College Goal Sunday) and Iowa College Access Network (ICAN), will be providing FREE, On-Site assistance to students and families in filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the federally required form for students seeking financial aid for college. Completing the FAFSA is the first and most important step in qualifying for aid. There will be a meeting at the Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 4:00-6:30 PM in Building B, Room 204.  This assistance is offered to all students and their families regardless of where they plan to attend college.  Appointments are not necessary. Be sure to bring along you 2015 tax information, W-2’s, and review the list of materials to bring.  For more information email finaid@nwicc.edu or call 1-800-352-4907 ext. 218 or 126.

PART-TIME JOB: Are you interested in making a little extra money?  Do you like working with kids?  The new GLR After-School Program is looking for some high school aged students who would like to help mold the leaders of tomorrow!  These are paid positions and the hours are minimal.  If interested, talk to Mr. Helkenn.

PARKING RAFFLE:  Hey all students, if you like to park a little closer to the school during these cold months, here’s your chance.  The Student Council is raffling 2 parking spots in the south parking lot for two weeks (Feb. 6-Feb 16). 
You can purchase a ticket for $1.00 per entry in the high school office.
The drawing will be Friday, Feb. 3.

SENIORS: We encourage you to enter for a chance to earn one of 30 scholarships AND to increase your understanding of college financing.  Go to www.iowastudentloan.org/seniorscholarship to register.  Once registered, seniors will receive an email with instructions to complete 2 online tutorials—-Student Loan Game Plan and ROCI Reality Check—-and a multiple choice assessment.  Students must complete all three steps before 4 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2017 to be considered for the scholarship.
The 30 students with the highest scores on the assessment will each earn $2,000 to be sent directly to their college in the fall.

SENIORS: It’s that time of year again for you to get your senior pictures and baby pictures to Karen Wibben.  She will need them by the end of December.

COLLEGE VISITS: All Seniors or Juniors (who are passing ALL OF THEIR classes) are allowed to visit with the college reps that come to our school.  Mr. Helkenn will send an email stating what school is coming and when they are scheduled to arrive.  You must sign up in the office if you want Mr. Helkenn or Ruth to call you down.  If Mr. Helkenn feels you are abusing this in order to get out of classes you will not be called down.  You will meet with these reps in the conference room by the office.
