The Iowa Department of Public Health is in the process of making changes to the Iowa Immunization Law which will require a TdaP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) vaccine for all adolescents entering the 7th grade. This requirement will become effective with the beginning of the 2013 – 2014 school year.
In preparation for this change in the law, Health Services of Lyon County will be able to offer state purchased vaccine this year for all adolescents regardless of insurance status. Plans are underway for school based clinics in all the county schools in January for grades 6 – 12. The agency is in the process of checking school and state records and will send out letters with report cards for students who are in need of this vaccine. Please watch for a letter, fill it out and return promptly to school, so vaccine can be ordered.
